Sigrity Advanced PI

Optimization of PCB power distribution system, ensuring EMC

Cadence® Sigrity™ Advanced PI bundle of tools helps you quickly evaluate the sufficiency, efficiency and stability of your PCB power distribution system. It allows the Power Integrity (PI) professionals to perform a power system check (including loads not only across power but also ground planes) at one point in time from all sources to all consumers of a multi-part (multi-board) project, and also in IC die.

Key Advantages

  • Reducing design cost and time by detecting potential problems before topology design is completed
  • Ensuring a reliable power system by verifying (checking) the power system for AC and DC currents, as well as power ripple analysis
  • Optimization of the power supply system in the device in all areas: PCB, package, die
  • Identification of problems that will need to be solved during the design of the device at the earliest stages
  • Presenting the information in the structured format

Cadence® Sigrity™ PowerTree tool allows you to set up an analysis before starting PCB routing, track the cost of the specification (BOM) during the design phase of the device logic. As the topology is developed, settings in the PowerTree environment can be repeatedly imported and used to perform DC and AC power integrity checks at every design stage.

Joint temperature-electrical analysis on a constant component

Sigrity PowerDC™ tool implements efficient direct current (DC) analysis to inspect the topology of die packages and printed circuit boards. Includes combined electrical and thermal simulation for improved accuracy. Sigrity PowerDC identifies areas of significant voltage drop and areas of excess current density, as well as the hottest areas by thermal state, which minimizes the risk of failure of your device.

Analysis of the frequency component of the power supply

Sigrity OptimizePI™ tool performs a complete frequency analysis of PCB and IC package currents. Simulation can be done before and after the routing. This allows you to quickly determine the best selection of decoupling capacitor types, ratings, and placements that will meet your power supply stability (PDN) requirements at the lowest possible cost. Modeled power circuit impedance values are checked against target impedance limits to ensure design meets specification.

Power Ripple Analysis

Sigrity SPEED2000™‘s unique ground-to-power noise modeling path is used to directly simulate power/ground noise in the I/O power time-domain. Sigrity Advanced PI provides power integrity to a PCB or chip package in the time domain without the need to extract S-parameter models and use them in SPICE simulations. This results in stable simulation results that would otherwise take longer.

Sigrity Topology Explorer tool

You can use this topology study tool to study the power systems of multi-part products. By connecting the power supply ports of the chip, case and printed circuit boards. You can create and model a complete route from source to destination. Ground/power system models for each part of the project are extracted using Sigrity PowerSI™ or Cadence Clarity™ 3D Solver. The analysis uses models to simulate a voltage regulator (VRM). The resulting signal provides a time domain representation of the voltage at each critical point from source to sink. You can determine if any part of the system is causing power integrity issues within specification.

Distinctive features

  • Automatic tuning of DC simulation using data from the PowerTree (source/sink) taken from the design stage of the circuit
  • Detection of critical places: narrow places of polygons with high resistance, search for overcurrent vias.
  • Determines if it is possible to reduce the number of layers without compromising DC distribution or risking thermal overload
  • Reduces the cost of Power Integrity (PDN) for both off-the-shelf devices and those under design.
  • Interactively customizable visualization of PDN performance.
