Allegro X Pulse – Engineering Data Management

The Allegro X Pulse, a EDM system, as an additional environment which can be integrated with Allegro PCB Designer software, generally performs the following functions:

  • Supports a single database of the enterprise, which includes all information on the design of an electronic device and Design Documentation.
  • Gives all participants in the electronic device design process access to information in accordance with their roles.
  • Maintains database integrity by restricting access to information.
  • Allows you to keep the database up to date for all participants in the design process using a network of servers located in different locations and time zones. Several times a day, synchronization of database copies located on the company’s servers takes place.
  • With the help of various tools, it provides maintaining the library of electronic components, creating electrical circuit diagrams and PCB routing projects.

EDM system supports development, modification and versions tracking for:

  • Schematic symbols libraries
  • PCB Footprints libraries
  • Electrical circuit diagrams
  • PCB projects

The system is based and maintained on the Cadence Pulse server software. It can be deployed both under Windows or Linux. Client computers can also run under these operating systems.

Under the control of Pulse Server, there is a distribution of user roles and database management.

The client part is called Allegro EDM Flow Manager. This tool presents the library, schematic, and PCB design flow as sequential tasks divided into steps that the user must follow from the top of the flow to the bottom. Each stage contains a list of tools needed to complete it.

The PCB footprints and schematic symbols can be created either manually or using the Allegro ECAD/MCAD Library Creator tool.

Editing the database of footprints and schematic symbols is controlled by Allegro EDM Database Editor.

When changes are made to a component, these changes are registered, checked for correctness, and the current version of the component is increased.
